Overview
The 7-Day Rongai Route offers a peaceful and scenic ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro, approaching from the northern side near the Kenyan border. This extended itinerary allows for slower, gradual acclimatization, increasing your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak. Trekkers will journey through lush rainforest, moorland, rocky alpine desert, and dramatic high-altitude landscapes. With fewer crowds than other routes, Rongai provides an immersive experience in the beauty of Kilimanjaro’s northern slopes while enjoying expert guidance, full support, and stunning panoramic views at every stage of the trek.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be welcomed by your transfer driver and escorted to Key’s Hotel in Moshi. Spend the day relaxing by the pool, exploring Moshi town, or resting after your flight. In the evening, your mountain guide will meet you for a briefing on the Rongai Route trek starting the next morning.

After breakfast, you will be driven to Rongai Gate (1,950 m) to start your trek. The trail passes through lush forest with gentle slopes, offering a peaceful introduction to Kilimanjaro’s northern side. You will reach Simba Camp (2,750 m) in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight are at Simba Camp.

The trek continues through moorland and open plains, gradually ascending toward Kikelewa Caves Camp (3,600 m). Along the way, enjoy views of Kilimanjaro’s glaciers and alpine desert landscapes. Dinner and overnight are at Kikelewa Caves Camp.

Today you will trek through alpine terrain to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,300 m), located near the base of Mount Mawenzi. This section offers excellent acclimatization and breathtaking views of the jagged Mawenzi peaks. Dinner and overnight are at Mawenzi Tarn Camp.

From Mawenzi Tarn Camp, continue trekking toward School Hut Camp (4,750 m), ascending gradually while enjoying high-altitude scenery and views of Kibo Peak. This camp prepares you for the midnight summit push. Dinner and overnight are at School Hut Camp.

Your summit climb begins around midnight, trekking through darkness to Stella Point and then continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) to witness sunrise over Africa’s highest point. After celebrating at the summit and taking photographs, descend to Barafu Camp for a rest and lunch, then continue down to Mweka Camp (3,100 m) for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you will receive your official summit certificate. You will then be transferred back to Key’s Hotel in Moshi or directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport for departure.
